Bredonborough A day of stuff

21.34

Bredonborough.

A day of stuff & practising, then dinner with T, Barbara & Beric, before the Luvvie set off for London.

My own reflecting has been mainly directed towards GC activities in 2006. The Vicar has an insight into future KC work. The principle the Vicar delineated, in my words, was this:

Begin with the music. Then, everything else follows.

It is so easy for the professional musician to allow the musical process to be determined by business interests & concerns. Very few players seem able to say no to a potty idea that compromises all musical instincts & intuitions but fits the conventional wisdom of how a working player earns their living.

Some players believe the conventional wisdom is the way to go: for them, no compromise is involved. Conventional wisdom is like gravity: it falls on you from above. Any sense that this is not the way to go is also a commitment to paddling upstream, working against gravity & upsetting many of those who nominally represent your interests. And then, should an uphill idea work out, it acquires its own gravity & becomes the new conventional wisdom.
